Court Appearance Agents Sydney: Mentions, Call-Overs & Subpoena Returns

Citilawyers’ solicitors appear at Sydney court listings as agents for other law firms, mentions, directions hearings, call-overs, returns of subpoena, registrar lists, and contested listings. For CBD listings, we can usually appear as agents, upon confirmation by 4pm the day a court listing date and we receive an agency.

Mentions and Directions Hearings

As we are conveniently located on Park Street, Sydney, in the heart of the legal precinct, we can appear, on short notice, in matters at the Sydney CBD Courts: including, Downing Centre; Central Local Court; John Maddison Tower; Supreme Court of NSW (Queen’s Square, Hospital Rd etc); Federal Court  of Australia Sydney; NCAT Sydney; Federal Circuit Court and Family Court of Australia, Sydney.

Return of Subpoenas

We appear on the return of the subpoena list dealing with access orders and objections on your instructions. We can also arrange access, inspection, uplift, and copying of subpoenaed material.

How to Instruct Us for a Court Appearance

  1. Fill the form or email admin@citilawyers.com.au with the matter name and number, the court and list, the date and time, the orders sought or your consent position, and any material we should have. For same-day or next-morning listings, call (02) 9233 7737 us as soon as possible.
  2. We confirm the instruction and the fee in writing before the appearance.
  3. We appear on your instructions.
  4. You receive a same-day report setting out what occurred, the orders made, and the next listing date, so your file is complete without chasing.

    How late can we instruct you for a court appearance in Sydney?

    For Sydney CBD listings, we can often accept same day instructions and by 4pm the day before a listing, subject to solicitor availability. For urgent same-day appearances, call (02) 9233 7737 rather than emailing, we will tell you immediately whether we can appear.

    What do you need from us before a mention or directions hearing?

    The matter name and number, the court and list, the date and time. We will send then send you an instruction sheet to obtain your instructions, the orders sought and any documents we should have for our appearance.

    What happens at a return of subpoena if we instruct you as agent?

    We appear on the return of subpoena list on your instructions, seeking access orders, responding to objections (if required). We can also attend to access, uplift and copy of subpoenaed material, then report back with what occurred and what was produced.

    What happens if there is an issue at court, while you appear as agents?

    When obtaining instructions, we request the details of the orders that you are seeking, accompanying documents (if any), the details of the solicitor with carriage of the matter. If something unexpected arises, we seek will contact the solicitor with carriage of the matter to seek instructions; if a further attendance becomes necessary, we tell you before any additional cost is incurred.

    How do you charge for Sydney CBD agency appearances?

    The charges depend on the nature and urgency of the appearance. We do not charge travel time and charge a fixed fee for the first hour of attendance. We provide a rate for additional charges, should the matter go over 1 hour.
